Reworked Desktops & Secondary Servers (#11)
It's been a while since the last update. Real Live kicked in and I had a really important project deadline at work and have been on holiday. Therefore I nearly had to pause with working on hackero.io but I've got more free time lately. I've made some progress I'd like to show you
First of all and one of the most remarkable changes is the possibility to buy secondary servers! This is a much-requested feature, and it required a lot of changes in the backend.
To make this possible a new NPC joined only selling server-related products. The buying progress is the same as buying software or a new piece of hardware, however, it is more expensive!
After a player buys a new server, the seller sends a mail with the server credentials which then allow the user to connect to the server
For now, a user can do everything he can also do with his system. But it is also possible to set up a honeypot with it or a webpage for a custom ingame organization.
In the future, I'm planning further customization for servers like custom additional user accounts with restricted permissions, the possibility to set up scam sites and collect login information. Additionally, I wanna improve the webpage customization features so your custom webpage really can stand out, and you can offer downloads of custom files. Custom shops ist also something I'm considering but are not yet implemented.
You might have guessed it when I speak about custom webpages, there must be a way to get custom domains. I'm glad I can finally announce it: You can buy custom domains! In my opinion, it was crucial to have secondary servers first, as it puts the server at quite a risk since it can be found from the web. Domains are pretty expensive and can get up to $6 million however the average is around $20,000. For example, a domain like abc.com costs $6 million, something like hoopsterbank.com is around $15,000. Domains similar to already existing ones also get more expensive, so if you try to get a domain like hipsterbunk.com it's around $123,000 instead of $15,000. This is the first idea for pricing domains so I'm looking forward to some feedback!
For sneaky players, you can now change the routing of the browser application by specifying a hosts attribute. This also works on other players' servers. Make bank websites return an error 500, or show your custom message when going to whois.io

Remote Desktop
If you might have wondered why the title says reworked desktops, here is the answer!
The structure of the desktop is partly rewritten to make it possible to have multiple desktops open at the same time. I've encountered a lot of problems while doing this, but it is working now. This now allows opening remote desktop connections to other systems. It is pretty cool, but I guess a short preview says more than 1000 words.
Improvements of the desktops now also allow advanced featured for remote desktops. One example of this is a button to directly download a file.
There is still a little bit of work to do, so I do not have a release date yet. I'm thinking about either adding some log managing tools or extend the functionality of secondary servers.
