Moving to Dedicated Infrastructure

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a major infrastructure upgrade for Hackero.io. If you’ve noticed that the game runs faster and smoother, that's because I’ve moved everything from the old VPS at Contabo to a much more powerful dedicated root server at Hetzner.

Why the Move?

Degrading performance has been creeping up lately on contabo, and I wasn’t happy with how things were running, while costs where rising because of using "old services". The slow load times, occasional lag, and overall sluggishness were becoming too common. Contabo served me well for a while, but it just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I needed a more reliable and faster solution to keep Hackero.io running at its best.

Enter the dedicated root server at Hetzner. It’s a massive upgrade in terms of speed and performance. Of course, with greater power comes a higher price tag, but in the long run, it’s worth it to ensure a seamless experience for everyone playing Hackero Classic and Hackero Next.

The Migration Process

This was one of the most complex migrations I’ve done so far. Everything—Hackero Classic, Hackero Next, databases and backend services —had to be moved over carefully. Along the way, I learned a ton about networking, storage providers in Kubernetes, and new deployment paradigms with Flux2. The entire process was intricate, but now that it’s complete, managing the infrastructure is much smoother.

What’s Different Now?

  • Faster Load Times: The new server significantly improves speed and performance.
  • Better Stability: No more random slowdowns or lag spikes, socket connections are more reliable
  • More Scalable: The new infrastructure is better suited for future growth.
  • Unlimited Email Server: Oh yeah, did I mention? The email server is now running without restrictions! No more annoying limits. :D

What’s Next?
